Programs for uninsured patients

WHN offers many low-cost and free programs to meet the health care needs of our uninsured and underinsured patients. To learn more about our programs, please choose from the list below.

Sliding Fee Scale

WHN offers a Sliding Fee Scale discount to our uninsured patients. Eligibility for this program is determined by your household income and the number of dependents living with you. You must complete a Sliding Fee Scale application which will determine if you qualify for a 25%, 50%, or 75% discount on our services (see SFS Income Guidelines).

Covered services include your office visit, lab work, and most office procedures. The Sliding Fee discount does NOT apply to medications or supplies. You must submit proof of household income with your application. Examples of acceptable documents are prior year tax returns, W-2’s, or the last three paycheck stubs or disability checks. If you cannot provide proof of income, we will still consider your application. In this case, your signed application will serve as a Self-Attestation of your income.

Upon approval, your Sliding Fee Scale remains active for 6 months, after which time, you must reapply. Please note that our services are not free. Payment for your portion of the discounted fees is expected at the time of service. However, we do understand that oftentimes, it is not possible to predict the level of services that you might require. In cases such as these, we may ask you to pay a percentage of the balance due. We will bill you for the remainder of the amount within 30 days. We do accept payment plans and will work with you to satisfy the balance due in a mutually beneficial time frame. Please note: if you provide us with any information that is false or incorrect, any Sliding Fee discounts will be reversed and you will be responsible for the full amount due for services rendered.

Medication Assistance

Adult patients who qualify for the Sliding Fee Scale may apply for free or reduced-cost medications through the Assisted Medication Program (AMP). You must complete an AMP application for each medication. You must submit proof of household income with each application. Examples of acceptable documents are prior year W-2’s, last three paycheck stubs, or disability checks. If approved, your medication(s) should arrive within 6-8 weeks. It is your responsibility to call your provider and request a refill 4 weeks before you are out of medicine. WHN cannot guarantee that you will meet the drug company’s rules or that your medication(s) are available through AMP. Please note: It is the strict policy of the WHN not to allow narcotic medications to be ordered through the AMP program.

Women’s Health Programs

Prenatal Program
The prenatal clinic provides affordable care for pregnant patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or on Medicaid. We meet the needs of our prenatal patients by providing regular check-ups, ultrasound, lab work, health education, and postpartum care. We help our eligible prenatal patients apply for Hoosier Healthwise, WIC, Healthy Families, Partners in Pregnancy, and many more programs that ensure a healthy start for you and your baby.

Hoosier Healthwise
Hoosier Healthwise is Indiana’s health care program for low-income, uninsured families, children, and pregnant women. Services covered include doctor visits, eye and dental care, prescriptions, mental health services, family planning, and more. Eligibility is determined by your household income and your family size. There are 3 health care packages available to uninsured pregnant women: Package A (full coverage), Package B (pregnancy-related coverage), and Package E (emergency only). To be considered for coverage, you must submit a completed Hoosier Healthwise application and income proof to your local Division of Family Resources. If you have questions or would like help applying for Hoosier Healthwise, please contact a Benefit Advocate at (317) 474-0148 or email jjacobs@windrosehealth.net. A Benefit Advocate will respond within 24-48 hours.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP)
The BCCP is a public health program that provides women’s health services to low-income, uninsured or underinsured older women. Eligibility is determined by age, household size, and household income. Services include clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap and pelvic exams, colposcopies, biopsies, and more. Children’s Health Programs

Hoosier Healthwise
Hoosier Healthwise is Indiana’s health care program for low-income, uninsured families, children, and pregnant women. Services covered include doctor visits, eye and dental care, prescriptions, mental health services, family planning, and more. Eligibility is determined by your household income and your family size. There are 3 health care packages available to uninsured families and children: Package A (full coverage), Package C (full coverage with premiums), and Package E (emergency only). To be considered for coverage, you must submit a completed Hoosier Healthwise application and income proof to your local Division of Family Resources. Vaccines for Children (VFC)
The VFC program provides free immunizations for children who are uninsured or on Medicaid. The VFC program may also help children whose insurance does not cover vaccinations. All VFC vaccines are free, however, there is a $5 administration fee for each vaccination. Please remember: you must bring your child’s shot records to the office visit. Mental Health and Addictions

Adult & child Mental Health and Addictions Services
Adult & child offers mental and behavioral health counseling to people of all ages. Services include assessment, family preservation, individual and family counseling, early intervention/prevention services, medication management, and treatment for addictions. An Adult & child licensed Clinical Social Worker is available at WHN Health Centers for patients in need of counseling, crisis intervention, and/or short-term psychotherapy.

Diabetes Programs

ECCO Eye Care
ECCO is a program offered through Indiana University of Optometry to provide individuals access to vision health care services. Low-income, uninsured residents of Marion, Hendricks, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Morgan, Johnson, and Shelby Counties may be eligible for consultations, eye exams, and treatment for eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, etc. For more information, please contact Kelli Barker, Program Coordinator, by phone 317-321-1424 or e-mail at kelebark@iupui.edu.

Diabetes Education
All patients diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type I or II and/or family members are welcome to schedule an appointment with our trained nurses to learn about diabetes. Education includes information about the disease, proper diabetes care, nutrition and exercise, and more. To schedule an appointment, please call Trafalgar Family Health Center at (317) 878-2301.

Senior Services

Medicare Enrollment
WHN offers a Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). This program educates senior citizens about Medicare benefits and how to enroll into Medicare. Our SHIIP counselor also assists seniors in choosing the Medicare Part D prescription program that best fits their needs, and helps low-income seniors apply for Low-Income Subsidy/Extra Help which helps cover prescription co-pays. Free individual appointments with a SHIIP counselor can be scheduled at the Edinburgh or the Trafalgar Family Health Center.

Other Programs

Little Red Door
The Little Red Door Cancer Agency provides health services to Central Indiana residents who are uninsured, underserved and medically indigent persons with cancer. Services are free of charge and include screenings to detect breast, oral, prostate, cervical and colon cancer, ultrasounds and biopsies to further detect the possibility of a malignancy after a cancer screening has been performed, medical supplies, prosthesis, wigs, support groups, and transportation to and from treatment and follow-up appointments.
